Another COMC Record

Back in March, I posted about my largest COMC purchase ever. It was all of 19 cards.

I just beat it by 13 cards.

That's right, I just had a 32-card order from COMC. You remember this tweet:
I realize that that's a number that isn't even close to what some of y'all have ordered. I'm working on stepping up my game, though. Anyway, the purchase will be split into four different posts, as it covered four disting collections.

First, for my new Martin Perez PC that I mentioned a few days ago:

I started with this 2011 Heritage. And I can't just get one...

...I had to grab the blue tint version, too.

I also decided to grab this Pro Debut relic. Not shabby, but not as pretty as...

...this Future's Game Relic! But wait, it isn't as pretty as...

...This Future's Game blue relic! Yeah, I know, it's a gimmick. But if you don't know that I love parallels by now, I don't know what to tell you.

Speaking of parallels, here are a couple green parallels: from 2012 Bowman Platinum (above) and 2014 Topps Series 1 (below).

But I didn't stop there! Here's the purple parallel from 2014 Topps Series 1....

And the red foil parallel from the same set.

Not a bad start for the PC. Check back later for the follow-up!

The Lost Collector Goes BIG...Above And Beyond!!!

One of the Heritage boxes I opened this year had a Masahiro Tanaka box topper ad panel, along with a Tanaka action variation. Like any self-respecting baseball fan, I had to get rid of those...I can't have Yankees in my house!!!

Fortunately for me, I knew someone that would provide a good home for them. AJ, a.k.a. The Lost Collector, is always waiting with arms wide open for any Yankees I may pull. And honestly, I enjoy sending them to him because I know he really appreciates them.

So I sent them on their way, not expecting anything in return.

Well, that was a silly thing to think. AJ always sends something nice.

First was this awesome Pudge. You can't tell, but it is a sweet holofoil card. I really wish Upper Deck still had an MLB license.

Next in the package was this sweet Juan Gone. A nice Topps gold border, to boot. Love it.

Then there was another Pudge staring at me. This one appears '99 All Star Game in Boston. Not positive, but I think this was an exclusive to the game.

Oh, I forgot to mention something.....

The Pudge All Star and Juan Gone are massive!!!!! I mean, these are by far and away the largest cards in my collection.

But that wasn't the only larger than life card he sent....

He also included this oversize box topper featuring the Diamond Kings portrait of Jurickson Profar!

Profar has had a rough go of it lately, but maybe he'll be ready to go next year.

AJ, I can't thank you enough. I never imagined I would get anything in return, much less an entire package of effing awesome!

A New Matty H. & A New PC

I've learned that occasionally, you will find a PC card that you never knew existed. If you're lucky, you can snag it. I was the fortunate victor of one of these cards last week:

What's special about this card, you ask? Well, it's from 2014 Series 2. But there is a little piece of foil that makes it special:

Yeah, I know it's blurry. Let me read it for you: "1st edition."

This card is from one of only 10 sets that were given away as part of a Spring Training contest. Though it isn't serial numbered, Topps claims that only 10 sets were made. Gimmick card? Hell yes, and I love it.

Also, I sent out this tweet over the weekend:
I don't share that to show you I don't proofread my tweets. I show you for the "I may have started a new PC" part of the tweet.

I kind of decided that I wanted to grab some cards off this guy:

One Mr. Martin Perez. Currently rehabbing from Tommy John surgery, Perez has a ton of talent and a ton of promise. His cards are relatively affordable, and her has quite a few cool pieces of cardboard. This helps supplement my Nick Martinez PC, which is getting harder to buy for since he's doing really well to start the season.

I'll have more Perez cards to share later this week. Look for me to add a page for the PC as well.

Bad News About The Bowman Break

First, not enough people signed up for it. Second, after looking at the sell sheet, there are no Ranger autos, which means I have no interest.

Therefore, I must call it:

My 2015 Bowman Break is Dead.

Check back around Bowman Chrome time and we'll see if we can give her a go.

A "Thank You" That Is Long Overdue

A while back, TJ, a.k.a. The Junior Junkie, sent out a literal ton of packages filled with amazing cardboard. I mean, the USPS receipt was 7 and a half feet long, for goodness sake. My mind was blown. I was envious of the people that would be receiving cards. I assumed that I wasn't on that list; TJ and I hadn't swapped cardboard in quite some time.

Well, my assumption was wrong. I was on the list of people to get cards from TJ! Needless to say, they were freakin' awesome!

First up, some sweet Nolans. I know the 90's were the pinnacle of the Junk Wax era (and Score was one of the worst offenders), but I love these cards! And I love SCore in general. Their cards always seemed so "clean" and legit.

TJ also included this guy for my Rusty PC. My scanner sucks - it doesn't do this card justice. It's a brilliant gold card and I am glad to have it!

Some set needs were also included in the pack...

But there were four cards that made this package awesome and over the top:

These are some of the Fleer team logo stickers! How freakin' awesome are these things??? I really don't have any cards from before the late 80's (outside of those I have picked up for my Team Set Project), so I had never seen these before TJ sent them my way. I have a quandary now, though: I have a mini fridge in my office which I have adorned with stickers (especially Upper Deck stickers from their early card lines). I really want to peel these and add them to that collection, but it feels as if I would be committing a sin if I did! What should I do?!?!?!?!?!?!

Anyway, TJ - I am incredibly sorry it took me this long to get these posted and to say Thank You. I really appreciate them, and I am looking for cards to return back your way. I thought I found a Griffey you didn't have, but I Was wrong. I promise I will find something!!!!

An Oddball For The Matty H PC

I love Heritage. I don't think that is a big secret. However, I can't stand the damn ad panels that some boxes carry. The width of three cards, they are just plain awkward. How the hell am I supposed to store them?

Needless to say, I generally don't keep these. This year, I pulled an ad panel featuring Masahiro Tanaka, so naturally, I sent it to the Lost Collector.

Just a bit ago, AJ tweeted this out:

That's a sick Pudge on top, with a nice Juan Gone beneath. I can't wait to find out what's below!

But this all started with a conversation on ad panels and how much I generally dislike them.

So naturally, I bought one:

This one hails from 2009 Heritage. As you can see, it features Matty H sandwiched between a washed-up Miguel Tejada and a pitcher from the Braves that I've never heard of (that, in itself, is pretty shocking...usually the Braves are stacked with stars at the pitching position).

This is actually the second panel Harrison appeared on in 2009 Heritage. I'm still trying to find the first one.

So there you have it, my first panel. I hope you enjoy the rest of your day while I try to figure out how to store this damn card....

So, I Started A New Project...

First, you should go sign up for my 2015 Bowman Break. Helluva deal! You know you want to do it.
--------------------
I've been gone a while. I know this. Sadly, 2015 hasn't been much better than 2014. My free time has been hovering near "nonexistent" for the last few months. I'm sure that shows in the posts I've made over that time. I have a few trade packages to post, and I will try to get to that soon.

As a side note, it isn't just my blog that has been suffering. As I sat in my office today going over a project with a student, my stomach began to hurt. I thought back, and it had been almost 36 hours since I had anything to eat. Sadly, even with me forgetting to eat, I still don't have my summer body.

Anyway, enough babbling. I was browsing through some cards and I came across a set I liked. Well, a subset is probably more accurate. The 2010 Topps T206 set was okay, though it reminded me a lot of Allen & Ginter. Nothing special. However, it had some pretty sweet autographs. All were mini autos, but they were different "brands": Piedmont, Old Mill and Polar Bear.

But there was another, and it stands head and shoulders above the rest: The American Caramel auto. So unique - how often do you see a mini auto that has the card turned horizontally?! NEVER! That's how often!

I fell in love instantly, and started looking out. The first I bought set me back 99 cents:

Sean Rodriguez. Not a big-name guy, but that is one beautiful signature.

I was going to post the card, but I thought to myself that I needed to announce this project with a name bigger than Sean Rodriguez.

No offense, Mr. Rodriguez.

So, I will announce my intention to collect all of the 2010 T206 American Caramel autos with this card:

Hall of Famer Duke Snider! This is my first card signed by a Hall of Famer. Perfect way to announce it.

So there it is. I'm working on collecting all the T206 autos. You can track my progress here, and if you have any of these cards, let's chat!
