Some Sparkly Gold Darvish!

In my post yesterday, I mentioned my love of the 2012 Topps set. That's the year I began buying cards again, so that set will always be one of my favorites. (Though, I have to say that I love 2013 Topps flagship just a tad more)

At one point, I had the gold sparkle parallel of Yu Darvish's rookie card. However, back then I wasn't terribly interested in keeping parallels. Needless to say, I no longer had it in my collection.

Until earlier this week. I found one on eBay for a reasonable price and decided to pull the trigger:

I love it. It just pops.

I haven't been doing it intentionally, but it seems that the only cards that I have been picking up are of Darvish.

I know not everyone is a big fan of parallels, but I know some of you are. If you are, what is your favorite parallel and from what year/set?

If you aren't a fan of parallels, which ones do you especially dislike?

  1. I like the black parallels, but they don't work as well now that borders aren't a thing in flagship any longer. The gold shimmer parallels, like the Yu, are very nice. They're probably in my top 5 favorite parallels.
I'm hoping Yu chooses the Cubs, but if not, then I hope he finds his way back to the Rangers again.

  2. Are you still going to pick up Darvish cards when he signs with the Yankees?

  3. I've always had a thing for 1994 Topps Gold.

  4. Blue parallels. They go with my team (Cubs) and don't really clash badly with anyone.

  5. I go back and forth between Topps Finest (and Chrome) refractors and UD Masterpieces (Topps Gypsy Queen) framed parallels. Both parallels are fantastic. It's really hard to pick a specific year, but here are a few of my personal favorites:

    1. 1999 Topps Chrome Refractor Nolan Ryan
    2. 1993 Topps Finest Refractor Tony Gwynn
    3. 1996 Topps Gold Refractor Tony Gwynn
